Very often mistakes might be made when administrating drugs when they are marketed under more than one brand name. In this video the Institute for Safe Medication Practices (ISMP) highlights medication errors that can occur with multiple brand name medications.
The ISMP recommends health professionals, in order to reduce the risk of errors, to conduct a thorough drug history and review drug information if they encounter unfamiliar product names. The ISMP also suggests that health professionals encourage patients to fill their prescriptions at the same pharmacy to help avoid taking the same product under different names.
