In a recent study, 47 trials of various cardiovascular drugs were compared and data was gathered on the clinical equivalency of brand name drugs and their generic counterparts. While the majority of trials indicated that it was safe to use the generic drug, significant differences were found between Lasix and its generic derivatives regarding six-hour urine output.
Though the results of the trials showed that the majority of the drugs included were clinically equivalent in both the brand and generic form, experts still are cautious of recommending generic drugs, especially to patients already on brand name drugs who are looking to switch to generic.
