Below is a video clip from CBS in which Dr. Travis Stork, host of “The Doctors”, visits “The Early Show” to discuss a study on heart drugs that suggests generic drugs are just as safe and effective as brand name drugs. Brand name drugs, such as Plavix, Toprol XL, and Zocor were among some of the major heart drugs studied. Dr. Stork also dismisses common myths assosiated with generic drugs, such as generic drugs not being as safe as brand name drugs. What is your opinion?

I remember watching ABC news and them comparing an antiseizure drug with how effective the generic and brand name drugs were. They did focus a lot on the major difference being the cost but they also said certain people do better with the brand name. Should someone just try out the generic in comparison and then decide?
Hi Obe,
My best advice would be to ask your doctor first. Different consumers react differently to certain drugs. Your doctor will be able to tell you if it is ok for you to switch from a certain brand name drug to generic or if it is in your best interest to stick with the brand name. Remember cheaper does not necessarily mean better.
